Newly elected President and Vice-Presidents

The Law Society of South Africa (LSSA) elected Mabaeng Denise Lenyai as President, and Joanne Anthony-Gooden and Ntlai Eunice Masipa as Vice-Presidents at its conference and Annual General Meeting in Kempton Park on 23 March 2022. This is a historic moment for the LSSA because it is the first time the organisation has a full female Presidents’ Committee. Ms Lenyai is a previous Vice-President of the LSSA.

Mabaeng Denise Lenyai is an attorney and director at Mabaeng Lenyai Inc in Pretoria. Ms Lenyai holds the BProc and LLB degrees from the University of Limpopo and the University of KwaZulu-Natal respectively.

Ms Lenyai was admitted as an attorney in 1998 and is also a notary and conveyancer. She has been a council member of the LSSA since 2015. She was also the Chairperson of the Black Lawyers Association (BLA), North West branch for six years. Since 2018, she has been a member of the National Executive Council of the BLA, and she is currently the Deputy President. She is also a council member of the Community Education Training Centre in Mmakau and she is a legal advisor for Motsweding FM. She is a member of the Women’s Task Team of the LSSA.

Joanne Anthony-Gooden is an attorney and director at Anthony-Gooden Inc in Port Elizabeth. Ms Anthony-Gooden holds the BJuris and LLB degrees from the University of Port Elizabeth.

Ms Anthony-Gooden was admitted as an attorney in 1999. She has been a member of the LSSA House of Constituents since 2019. Since 2003, Ms Anthony-Gooden has been an Executive Council member of the Attorneys Association of South Eastern Cape, as well as being on the Executive Council of the South Eastern Cape Dispute Resolution Association. From March 2010 Ms Anthony-Gooden has been on the Executive Committee of SEDRA, she is also a Lecturer for the Legal Education and Development arm of the LSSA. From 2010 to date, she has been the Executive Member of Yokuselo Haven for abused women and children. She is also the Eastern Cape counsellor for Port Elizabeth on the Eastern Cape Legal Practice Council and also a Member of the Family Law Committee of the LSSA and on the Eastern Cape chapter of the LSSA Executive Committee.

Ntlai Eunice Masipa is an attorney and director at Masipa Attorneys in Pretoria. Ms Masipa holds the LLB degree from the University of Limpopo.

Ms Masipa was admitted as an attorney in 2015. She has been a member of the LSSA House of Constituents since 2019. Since 2017, she has been a member of the National Association of Democratic Lawyers (NADEL) EXCO and is currently the Deputy Treasurer. Ms Masipa has been a Board Member of the Legal Provident Fund since 2020 and a Board Member of Knobel Hospital. She also serves on the Human Resource Committee of the LSSA.
