Law Society warns public about scam text/SMS from V.N.X Attorneys

The Law Society of South Africa wishes to alert members of the public about an SMS scam doing the rounds and indicating that it is from V.N.X Attorneys. Please note there is no such attorneys’ firm listed with the law societies.

Like other scam text messages, the message instructs you to attend at the High Court on 5 October and then to click on the link. Please ignore the message and do not click on the link.

Should you receive any communication purporting to be from an attorneys’ firm and you wish to check whether either the firm or the attorney are registered, practising or in good standing, you should contact the records department at the relevant provincial law society as follows:

Once the Legal Practice Council comes into operation later this year, enquiries regarding the status of attorneys and advocates can be referred to the Legal Practice Council.
