Criminal Matters Amendment Act 2015 18 of 2015 comes into operation on 1 June 2016

The Criminal Matters Amendment Act 2015 18 of 2015 was published in the Government Gazette on 15 December 2015.

The Act provides for stricter measures relating to bail and sentencing in respect of essential infrastructure related offences and also creates a new offence in this regard. Section 10 of the Act provides that the Act comes into operation on a date fixed by the President by proclamation in the Gazette. The President has fixed 1 June 2016 as the date on which the Act will come into operation. The necessary Proclamation has been gazetted on 24 May 2016.
