(SAICA Nominated Position)

The Law Society of South Africa (LSSA) invites nominations for suitably qualified and experienced individuals to serve on its Audit and Risk Committee. This is a South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) nominated position, and therefore only members of SAICA are eligible for nomination.

About the Committee

The Audit and Risk Committee plays an independent oversight role, reporting to the House of Constituents (HoC). It supports the LSSA in ensuring sound financial governance, risk management, and compliance with relevant legal and regulatory frameworks. It does not assume management functions but provides oversight and guidance in key areas including:

  • Financial and sustainability reporting
  • Internal financial controls
  • External and internal audit processes
  • Risk management
  • Corporate law and governance
  • ICT governance related to integrated reporting
  • Business sustainability

Eligibility Criteria

Candidate must:

Be a current member in good standing with SAICA.

Have a strong background in areas such as:

  • Financial and sustainability reporting
  • Internal financial controls
  • External and internal audit processes
  • Risk management
  • Corporate law and governance
  • ICT governance related to integrated reporting
  • Business sustainability

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversight of the finance function and annual budget review
  • Engagement with the Internal Audit Subcommittee (IAS)
  • Consultation with the Remuneration Committee on salary reviews
  • Risk management policy development and monitoring
  • Oversight of external audit processes and auditor independence
  • Members may be appointed to subcommittees and may seek independent professional advice, subject to LSSA processes.

General

The candidate must not serve on the House of Constituents or Exco of the LSSA.

The Committee will elect its own Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson from among its members.

Members of the Committee must remain up-to-date with developments affecting their skillset.
