NADEL press statement: Passing of Cde Julius Pakkies

It is with great sorrow that the National Association of Democratic Lawyers (NADEL) announces the death of its member Mr. Julius Pakkies.

Mr. Pakkies was a member of Port Shepstone branch of NADEL and its former Branch Chairperson. He played a fundamental role in the establishment of the Port Shepstone Branch.

He was an incredible man whose presence shall be greatly missed by all.

In recalling Cde Pakkies the President of NADEL, Mr. Mvuzo Notyesi, said;

"His passing on comes at a time when the progressive forces in the legal fraternity are intensively and radically involved in the transformation of both the legal profession and the judiciary”. We firmly believe that his skills, acumen and brilliance would have contributed immensely towards the directions our society demands; however, he now joins the world of heroes and heroines who shaped our society as they led our revolution to the stage where we are today. Consistent with the principles of our revolution, Mr. Pakkies was a selfless comrade who never put himself or his interest above the interests of the majority. For these reasons, we share the grief by the family for the loss of Mr. Pakkies. Their Grief is ours, although they cannot be compared. May his soul rest in peace".

Mr. Krish Govender, NADEL’s National Executive Committee member, said;

"Cde Julius was a pioneer in the formation of the Port Shepstone Branch and was always in regular contact with our late Cde President Pius Langa and me in relation to activities in the South Coast of KZN. He was also a powerful lawyer who was often briefed by me as an agent and correspondent in the area. His passing away is a sad loss for all of us. He will always be remembered as a kind and helpful human being to everyone. His commitment to the struggle was unwavering. May his soul rest in peace. Hamba Kahle Brother."

Cde Pakkies shall be put to rest on Sunday, 31 July 2016 at Khwezi Primary School, eKhwezi, KwaZulu Natal. NADEL once again passes it deepest and most sincere condolences to the Pakkies family, indeed their loss is our loss.

On behalf of all here at NADEL we say” rest in Peace Cde Pakkies”, you have fought a good fight, you have finished the race. We that remain shall continue with the struggle of realizing a truly transformed legal fraternity and Judiciary.
