On behalf of the Council, Directorate, staff and membership of The Cape Law Society I extend our sincere condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Mr Nic Swart, as well as to the staff of the Law Society of South Africa (LSSA), on the untimely passing away of Mr Swart, the CEO of the Law Society of South Africa.
Mr Swart dedicated his life to the legal profession and its structures and particularly to the education of its membership and prospective membership. He was responsible for the establishment of the Legal Education and Development division of the LSSA and developed the School for Legal Practice. During his time he never lost sight of the difficulties, particularly financial, experienced by previously disadvantaged students. He served on various Boards, Committees and Councils and was a regular speaker at the Law Conferences of various Law Bodies, both nationally, regionally and internationally.
Mr Swart’s contribution to the development of the legal profession over his years of devoted service has been profound and he will be remembered for his passion for the profession and as a stalwart of the profession. He will be missed and leaves behind
a vacuum in the legal profession.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Mr Swart’s wife and family during this difficult time. We hope that they will draw comfort in the knowledge that Mr Swart’s contribution to the legal profession will always be remembered.
Issued by Mr Lulama Lobi, Acting President of The Cape Law Society on behalf of the Council of The Cape Law Society
