The National Association of Democratic Lawyers (NADEL) is deeply saddened by the passing of our Icon, and Mother of our Nation, Cde Winnie Nomzamo Madikizela-Mandela.
This is a woman who experienced a sustained campaign of persecution by the apartheid state but never wavered in her commitment and dedication to the revolutionary cause against oppression, colonialism, and abuse of our people.
She remained truly committed and dedicated to the struggle for the total elimination of patriarchy, and the abuse of the most vulnerable members of our society. She always identified herself with the poor and the marginalised. She was fearless and remains true to the principles of non-racism, non-sexism, a democratic, and a united South Africa.
We believe, as NADEL, that we should celebrate the life of this Icon of our struggle by accelerating the amendment of section 25 of the Constitution of South Africa to expropriate land without compensation. This should be done in order to take our people out of poverty.
Issued on behalf of the National Association of Democratic Lawyers ( NADEL), South Africa,
