PRESS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE KWAZULU-NATAL LAW SOCIETY ASIF ESSA ON MEDIA ALLEGATIONS IN RESPECT OF REGIONAL COURT PRESIDENT, ERIC NZIMANDE, AS WELL AS ATTORNEYS AGAINST WHOM ALLEGATIONS OF IMPROPER CONDUCT HAVE BEEN MADE
The KwaZulu-Natal Law Society views with grave concern media reports recording allegations being investigated by the Magistrate’s Commission in respect of Regional Court President, Eric Nzimande, as well as attorneys against whom allegations of improper conduct have been made.
As the custos mores of the legal profession we exhort the Magistrate’s Commission to finalise its investigations as a matter of urgency. The Society in terms of its powers to act at its own election will investigate the conduct of members against whom the allegations have been made as soon as documented evidence comes to hand.
The Society reconfirms its commitment to ensure that all of its members act in accordance with the exacting and highest standards of ethical conduct and integrity expected from its members and will act against those who are proved to have fallen short of those standards.
