We are pleased to invite you to meet your colleagues from across the African continent at the Pan African Lawyers Union (PALU) 8th Conference and Triennial General Assembly at the Elangeni/Maharani Hotel in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal from 5 to 8 July 2017. The Law Society of South Africa (LSSA) is co-hosting the conference with PALU.
The PALU conference is regarded as the leading platform for African lawyers, bringing together lawyers, lawyer associations, law firms, human rights and good governance professionals.
The overall theme of this year's conference is 'The Legal profession - recapturing its place in society' and 'Securing Africa’s future through the eradication of corruption – the role and responsibilities of lawyers and lawyer associations'.
The conference sessions are divided into three streams:
1. Section on Business Law, which will discuss the most pertinent issues in corporate and commercial law on the continent.
2. Section on Legal Practice, which will analyse the growing opportunities in the legal field for African lawyers and foreign lawyers practising in Africa.
3. Section on Public Interest and Development Law, which will discuss emerging strategies for protecting lawyers, journalists and human rights defenders.
